Sunday, May 8

  • U.S. Army Soldier Bill Allen sent his wife and daughter in Mountain View a virtual Mother's Day message.

Monday, May 9

  • Crittenden Middle School students will hold their last musical concert on Tuesday, May 17, and their instructor, Arlene Miyata, has worked hard to prepare the young and recently formed orchestra.
  • A stretch of 1.45 miles of pipeline, primarily beneath the Rex Manor neighborhood, was filled with water by PG&E Monday to determine the reliability of pipeline 132a. The utility announced the success of the hydrostatic test on Tuesday.
  • At public hearings held by the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), including one at Mountain View's City Hall last week, VTA officials announced the proposed elimination of bus routes 34 and 104. The latter route would disappear as early as January 2012 and the former in July 2012.

  • Local merchant Lee Hester and his wife, Connie, will run Bay to Breaker for the 10th year this Sunday. The duo, who started running in 2001 when both were 40, also use the race as a way to mark their anniversary and Connie's birthday.

  • The board of directors of El Camino Hospital named CFO Ned Borgstrom as the interim CEO to start on July 1, after Ken Graham's departure. Graham, asked by the hospital board to resign in February, will continue with full authority as CEO through June 30 to help in the transition.

Friday, May 13

  •  girls have uploaded 181 photos since January of their ideal prom dresses for all to see on Facebook's "MHVS Prom Dress 2011" group to encourage others to avoid buying the same dress for prom.
  • In this week's “Bits and Bytes,” read how SimplyHired.com's website traffic grew by more than 50 percent over last year. Also mobile apps continued to create controversy for Google, as did Facebook Inc., publicly chided for what has been seen as an attempt to smear the search giant.

Saturday, May 14

  • Nearly 125 vendors cleaned out their closets, garages and living rooms to sell items at the annual Mountain View Community Yard Sale held today at Rengstorff Park.
