15th Annual Run for Zimbabwe Orphans and Fair

Get ready to be fit, create art and help others at the 15th Annual Run for Zimbabwe
Orphans and Fair
on Sunday March 23, 2014 at St. Joseph School (1120
Miramonte Ave. Mountain View)  from noon
to 4 p.m.  There is a race for every age
group--  220 yards for preschool, ½ mile
for kindergarten and a series of one mile races for grades 1-8, high school and
adults.  This family event features
animal mascots, Zimbabwe bands, African game booths, the food of Zimbabwe and
eye popping orange hippo T-shirts.  Runners
are awarded finisher ribbons and the top three per race receive Championship
Cups.  Children are also awarded ribbons
for entering their art in The Children’s African Art Exhibition (pre-school to
Grade 8) and the top artists receive toy hippos.  Best of all, the funds raised from the Zim
Run go to the orphanage, Makumbi Children’s Home, in Zimbabwe where this year’s
capital project is the funding of a “half-way” cottage for eight 18 year old
women who have “aged out” of the orphanage.
This cottage, called the Sister Batsirai Cottage, will provide
vocational education and assist the women in finding jobs.  To run ($5), donate funds, volunteer, enter
the art exhibit or learn about the shoe drive log on to SLF's web site!
