Roundtable discussion on transforming the teaching profession with Marciano Gutierrez, U.S. Department of Education Teaching Ambassador Fellow; Alta Vista High School teacher

U.S. Department of Education (ED) Teaching Ambassador Fellow Marciano Gutierrez will lead a roundtable discussion on elevating the teaching profession with teachers, administrators and school-board members on Tuesday, Dec. 18, in Mountain View, Calif.


The roundtable will offer an opportunity for classroom teachers and other education professionals to share with ED their ideas, experience, feedback and insight on how to transform the teaching profession in support of student learning.


Gutierrez is one of 12 teachers to be selected as a U.S. Department of Education Teaching Ambassador Fellow in 2012 after a rigorous competition among hundreds of applicants nationwide. Gutierrez is returning home to conduct this roundtable with educators. He is the lead social studies teacher at Alta Vista High School. Gutierrez is on a leave of absence from his school while serving as a resource to ED, helping local school districts to understand federal policy and representing the needs and interests of his community to policy officials in Washington, D.C.
