Smuin Ballet 2013 Winter Program
Smuin Ballet comes to Walnut Creek, Mountain View, and Carmel with Cold Virtues from rising choreographer Adam Hougland, set to Philip Glass’ haunting Violin Concerto. This work received its West Coast premiere with Smuin Ballet in October 2012, which the San Francisco Chronicle called “striking” and “engrossing to the end” and SF Classical Voice praised as “unforgettable.” The program also includes a revival of the smash hit Oh, Inverted World by Trey McIntyre, which received its world premiere with Smuin Ballet in 2010. Fresh from its New York premiere and back by popular demand, Oh, Inverted World is set to music by the popular indie-rock band The Shins. Three works by Michael Smuin will also grace the stage – Starshadows, a sensual and evocative adagio for three couples set to Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major; Homeless, a joyous and exhilarating solo work; and No Viviré, an en pointe solo peppered with the delicious flavoring of Latin American rhythms.
