Plein Air at the Baylands - An Exhibit by the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society Plein Air Painters

SCVWS PLEIN AIR EXHIBIT AT THE BAYLANDS ECOCENTER

On Saturday, March 15th, the Palo Alto Environmental Volunteers welcomed more than 250 visitors to their “We Are the Shoreline: Community Art Celebration.” An Opening Reception was held for Artists from the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society’s (SCVWS) Plein Air Painters Group whose Baylands artwork is now on display.

More than six months ago, EcoCenter Curator Karen Druker put out the call to her fellow artists to spend time at the Baylands Nature Preserve painting en plein air, a French term meaning “in open air.”  More than two dozen paintings now line the walls of the EcoCenter with watercolor artwork depicting views of the marshlands and shore birds.   A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of their artwork will go directly to the Environmental Volunteers for future programs at the EcoCenter.

Artists exhibiting their work are as follows:  Jenny Tero, Sylvia Waddell, Dick Zunkel, (Paintsites Leaders)  Laurie Barna, Curtis Boyle, Anna Briggs, Lavonne Carrick,  Karen Druker, Kay Duffy, Christine Edwards, Caroline Garbarino, Anna Jacke,  Leonard Leving, Iris Lian, Shao Wei Liu, Kaaren Marquez, Jean Massey, Marilyn Perry, Una Reed, Brad Santos, Arena Shawn, Mitsi Shine, Elizabeth Siegel and Peter Taber.

A Children’s Art Exhibit was also part of the event, complete with First Place Blue Ribbons and prizes. More than 150 original pieces of artwork from local elementary schools were on display at the EcoCenter’s Fenwick Hall.  Mountain View Artist Anna Jacke, Judge of the children's show, awarded 13 ribbons to young artists.

The Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society Exhibit will run through May 30th at the EcoCenter.  Hours:  Monday, Thursday and Friday 11:00 am-1:30 pm Saturday: 10:00 am-3:00 pm
