Learn About Mountain View Trees at Arbor Day Celebration

Wonder how many and what type of trees there are in the city? Ask the forestry division this Saturday at Pioneer Park.

This past February Mountain View's population grew—by 10 trees.

During a successful tree planting event, where there were more volunteers than could be accommodated, the city's Forestry Division planted new White Crape Myrtle Trees on the Central Expressway side of the railroad tracks across from the Rengstorff Community Center.

The Forestry Division maintains the landscaping along public streets and roadway.

Working longside the Forestry Division, the non-profit Mountain View trees advocates for trees not just for their beauty but also because of other benefits that include:

  • Trees provide shade in the summer and help break the wind in the winter.
  • Trees encourage people to spend time outdoors increasing community.
  • Trees make people feel physically and emotionally better
  • Trees help increase the value of nearby residential and commercial properties

The community of Mountain View is invited to learn more about trees and the local environment at the annual Arbor Day celebration this Saturday, Mar. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pioneer Park located behind City Hall. However, families can arrive earlier and bring their children to the Mountain View Public Library at 10:15 a.m. for a book reading.

Various public agencies and volunteer environmental groups will have information booths set up to learn more about trees, composting and many will receive a self-guided brochure for trees in Pioneer Park.
