This Week with the Mayor

The Mayor's review of the past week in Mountain View.

Welcome to "This Week with the Mayor" and my entry into the world of blogging.  You can thank or blame Claudia for this blog, but it did seem like sharing some of the things that the Mayor experiences might be of interest to some of you.

This was a pretty active week which started with a corporate visit with one our biotech companies in the North Bayshore. Neuropace (http://www.neuropace.com/) makes a medical device that helps control epileptic seizures. Not too many people realize that Mountain View leads the Bay Area in the number of medical device companies!

Later in the week, I met with the organizer of The Start Conference (http://thestartupconference.com) which will be held in the on May 2.  This will be the third such conference and will be the first time The Startup Village, a sort of startup street fair, will take place in the Civic Center Plaza.

A few days later, I had the opportunity to represent the City at the opening of NASA's Space Station exhibit at The Tech where I met representatives of CASIS, the company that will be managing the application process for running experiments on the ISS.  They are very interested in hearing from any local company, school or group that has an experiment for the space station.

The week ended with our Congresswoman Anna Eshoo hosting a forum with the Small Business Administration and local Chambers of Commerce and cities on spurring small business growth, and the Annual Dinner of the Mountain View Sister Cities Association. This year, Sister Cities will be sending a handful of Mountain View students to our Sister City, Iwata Japan, for 2 weeks.  This is a great experience for all those who participate, and I encourage you to find out more about our Sister City program.
