Can Perfume Make You Thin & Sexy?

Can a spritz of perfume change how others see you or how you see yourself? Is there more to perfume than meets the nose?

The other day a friend of mine was shopping in one of the smelly bath and body shops.

You know those stores that you can smell from the parking lot of the mall.  Those wonderfully aromatic boutiques that stock potent pomegranate lemon verbena candles next to a peppermint foot cream that is so powerful that your eyes water when the helpful salesclerk jams it up under your nose. "Doesn't this smell yummy?"

Yes, American women, we like our world to have delicious evocative scents that conjure up visions of fields of lilacs and bouquets of roses. I love my Lemon Sage body cream and my Verbena body wash, and let's not forget the wafting Gardenia scented candle next to my bed.  So, it was funny when my friend told me about her recent experience in one of those shops that sell all those lovely and fragrant products.

"Would you like to try this latest grapefruit scented body lotion?" she was asked by the hopeful middle aged sales clerk who had a suspicious twinkle in her eye.  "This actually makes your husband think you're sexier," she revealed with a conspiratorial nod and smile. "Seriously, it helps men overlook our flaws and think we're more beautiful."

My first question was is there a perfume that makes me look thinner?  Wow, wouldn't that be awesome if a spritz would create a magical cloud you could walk in all day that made everyone who looked at you think you were thin and even sexy! Is this what helps sell perfume? I wonder if the scents travel to the deep inner recesses of the brain and trigger receptors that change what we think?

Though my friend is always happy to be viewed as much more beautiful and sexy, her question to the clerk was a lot more realistic.  "What do you have that will make my husband think that the house is cleaner and that dinner is made?

Come on!  Let's get our priorities straight.  I wonder which scent that would be?  Apple Pie with cinammon?  Chocolate chip cookies?   Steak?  Hey!  There's an idea, what if we wore Ribeye Scented Perfume.  Now, I know that the neighborhood dogs would be happy, but what about our men folk?  For now, I think I'll give the grapefruit scent a try.
