I think this is a good photo that shows him in an environment that he loved. This picture was taken up in Shasta County on the way up to Horse Camp, the base camp before you climb up to Mount Shasta.

This has been so hard because it was so sudden. You never expect anything like this to happen. He was such a happy person, always smiling and he was so talented and so excited about life. He volunteered a lot with the Mid-Peninsula Open Space District. I met him through my friend Rob and volunteered with him often. He also was an avid pilot and loved being up in the air.

I knew him through a mutual friend and he was a kind and energetic person. He and I would go camping every year, like to Lake Siskiyou and Big Basin. I knew Erik for five years. This news has been terrible. One memory I have was when we had a giant cacatau loose in my laundry room and I had to call Erik to help me. He came over in 30 minutes. Somehow Erik very calmly walked the bird back into its cage and contain the situation.
