Mountain View Remembers Those Lost in 2012

Patch takes a look back at family, friends and colleagues who died this past year.

In Memoriam:

  • Dominick Daniel Garofano (1923-2012): A decorated U.S. Marine Corp Veteran who served valiently in World War II, died on Dec. 4, 2012. He was 89.
  • Kiyoko 'Kay' Horita (1933-2012): She lived a remarkable life that included three years in a Japanese internment camp also included love, survival and family.
  • Teresa Stephens (1929-2012): Teresa Victoria Ochoa Capella Stephens, 83, of Sunnyvale, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Nov. 30, 2012.
  • Helen M. Bonelli (1913-2012): Just shy of 100 years, the matriarch was very devoted to her family.
  • Hermie F. Aquino (1933-2012): Hermie F. Aquino, 79, of Mountain View died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at El Camino Hospital surrounded by his family.
  • Elizabeth Anne Avellino (1960-2012): The martial artist, craftswoman and business owner will rest at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo.
  • Margaret Ann Costa (1962-2012): Margaret Ann Costa, born on June 3, 1962 in Mountain View and resident of San Jose, died peacefully on Monday, Nov. 5 2012 in San Mateo.
  • Regina Draganowski (1934-2012): A devoted wife, mother and member of her church and community died at age 78.
  • Jerry Martin David (1939-2012): Prominent Mountain View Businessman, Eddy’s Sport Shop owner Gerald Martin David passed away on Monday, September 24, 2012.
  • Tony Edward Reyes (1972-2012): Beloved friend who started conversations with a 'Hey buddy!' was laid to rest Tuesday at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos after a sorrowful service in Cupertino.
  • Former School Board President Fran Kruss Dies: A former nurse, community activist and champion for education died on Sept. 15, 2012.
  • Edmund Perry (1946-2012): A resident of Mountain View. He served two tours in the United States Marine Corps in HMM-164 in Vietnam. Died Sept. 2. He was 66.
  • Harry Kiyomura (1919-2012): Born in Mountain View, a longtime resident of San Mateo. He served with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in Italy during World War II. Died Aug. 9. He was 93.
  • Capt. Matthew Manoukian (1983-2012): Manoukian valiantly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2006 until his death on Friday, Aug. 10 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
  • William Ware (1962-2012): An active Mountain View community member, Ware made his point heard at meetings around town.
  • Nick Juarez (1996-2012): After the tragic death of the 16-year-old St. Francis High student, friends, family and teachers share their thoughts.
  • Erik Onorato (1986-2012): The Mountain View resident loved to spend time hiking and volunteered with the Mid Peninsula Open Space District.
  • Nancy C. McKellar (1936-2012)

My heart goes out to his family. I'm really saddened that the person who hit him is going to haveRead More to deal with guilty feelings/horrible memories from this, even though it was 0% his fault. If someone wants to take their own life, then that's terribly sad, but I think it's especially terrible to involve or potentially involve someone else in the process.
