Obituary: Lydia E. Martinez (1916-2013)

The great-great-grandmother will be remembered by many friends and family members.

Lydia E. Martinez, 97, a longtime resident of Mountain View and current resident of Mesa, AZ died on January 25, 2013.

Born in 1916 in Trinidad, CO, after Lydia moved to Mountain View she worked as an interpreter for Escuela Elementary (now Mariano Castro Elementary) and S&H Green Stamp store in Sunnyvale. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1954 and enjoyed singing in her church choir and for the Peninsula Chorus.

Lydia is survived by her four children, Henrietta Votaw of San Jose, CA; Dorothy Paulk of Mesa, AZ; Connie Fournier of Prescott, AZ and David Ochoa of Cheney, WA., 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She leaves behind four sisters, Emma Arevalo of Sonoma, CA, Ruth Roybal of Auburn, CA, Levinia Vigil of Springfield, MO, Gloria Gertz of Carmichael, CA, and one brother Gregory Maestas of Eureka, CA and many wonderful friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Serivices will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 1667 Miramonte Ave. on Friday Feb. 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. followed by her interment at Alta Mesa Memorial Park in Palo Alto, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower, Phoenix, AZ 85014-5656.
