Meet Cupertino Patch's Power Bloggers

Here are Gary Jones and Mason McCarty with Patch Editor (me!) Anne Ernst at Bitter+Sweet.

This photo just screams Patch to me.

Here I am sitting at on its one-year anniversary between two of our Local Voices bloggers, and . In Patchland they’ve earned the title “power bloggers” because they have been so active on Patch. For that, I am grateful. There were a little more than 400 power bloggers among thousands of bloggers across more than 850 Patches in 23 states, and Cupertino Patch has these two!

The print both Gary and I are holding is a cartoon, and gift, made for us by Mason. It is the likenesses of the three of us riding a train. I will treasure this always because not only is it a great cartoon, but there is multiple meaning behind it.

For one, it is built on the discussion that started on Patch about the transit system in Cupertino, or rather the lack of a system. Through Gary’s blogging he started a small grassroots group, , that is working behind the scenes for the community to get a shuttle system, or some other kind of mass transit system in the city to improve traffic and air conditions.

Mason has now joined the group that includes residents , and , as well as a few others. They are meeting with leaders in the city and those involved in transportation. And it all started on Patch.

The other connection I enjoy with this cartoon is all the work Mason has done for Patch. He’s created multiple political cartoons plus our very own comic strip starring .

In our weekly  game, Mason kicks up the fun a notch by adding Arnie’s image somewhere in there. He’s truly talented and I encourage you to visit his website www.masonmccarty.com to enjoy more of his work. There you’ll find photos of his art on hockey helmets, game boards and woodwork, oil and acrylic, sculptures, windows, and yes, political cartoons.

Thanks guys, and especially to you Mason for the wonderful cartoon!

Great stuff, Anne. Thanks, Gary and Mason, for your wonderful contributions. We value them very much. Patch is all about being a platform for constructive discussions in communities, and in this case, facilitating the possibility of a very beneficial change for the city of Cupertino.
