POLL: Did Obama Get it Right or Wrong with New Immigration Policy?

The DREAM Act died in the Senate, but a new Obama administration policy embraces goals of measure.

Immigration exploded as a campaign issue Friday when President Barack Obama that temporarily halted deportation proceedings for a specific class of undocumented immigrants.

Homeland Security calls "prosecutorial discretion" a two-year deferral of deportation for undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. before the age of 16, are still 30 years old or younger, and meet other educational and residency qualifications.

The policy will apply to about 800,000 people nationally and allow them to work in the U.S. legally, according to federal officials.

Supporters cheered the policy as sensible and humane, though they now warn community members to not fall victim to scam artists taking advantage of the uncertainty.

Opponents jeered it as an "end run" around Congress and a political move to win over Latino voters.
