I am delighted to announce that the American Youth Rugby Union (AYRU) and its first club, , have received sponsorship from and Irish Bar on Castro Street, Mountain View.
This is the first major sponsorship in our three year history and is a great endorsement of the type of organization we are trying to create for our community.
Although AYRU is incorporated in the state of California as a public benefit corporation, the generous donation from St. Stephens Green will allow us to make an application to the IRS to become a tax exempt 501(c)(3) or a Not-for-Profit corporation. The cost of submitting this application to the IRS is $800!
Securing tax exemption status is a crucial milestone for our volunteer-based organization and will open up more opportunities for us to apply for grants.
Lastly 501(c)(3) status is required by the Department of the City of Mountain View before any Youth Sports Organization (YSO) can be formally designated as a "Recognized YSO".
A proportion of the donation from St. Stephens Green, one of the most popular restaurants on Castro, will be used to promote the youth organization and increase awareness of our program and build a stronger and larger organization next year.
