Body Found Floating Near Alviso Marina Identifed

A man whose body was found in a creek near the Alviso Marina last Saturday has been identified as 54-year-old James Allan Collier, of Clearlake, the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office reported.

The cause of Collier's death was drowning but the circumstances about how he died are still under investigation, according to a medical examiner's office employee.

Crews on a rescue boat recovered Collier's remains after a kayaker reported seeing a body in the water at about 10:15 a.m. Saturday in the channels north of Alviso Marina County Park, according to the San Jose Fire Department

A Cal Fire helicopter confirmed the location of the body at about 11:46 a.m. and rescue boats were deployed to the area one mile east of the Alviso Slough in Coyote Creek. 

Personnel from the San Jose, Fremont and Alameda County fire departments, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Santa Clara County Park Servicealso arrived at the scene.

Alviso Marina County Park is located at the southern end of the San Francisco Bay adjacent to the salt ponds and marshes of Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
