Burglary Suspects Nabbed with Christmas Decorations

A Los Altos man and a Mountain View man arrested for burglary, conspiracy, and possession of stolen property.

Two men have been arrested for burglarizing a storage unit at The Americana Apartments complex, law enforcement officials reported Tuesday.

Los Altos resident Lawrence Ovadia, 33, and Mountain View resident Sterling Winterhalter, 28, allegedy stole items from a storage unit at 707 Continental Cir. around 5:49 p.m. on Feb. 2 and fled in a dark colored pick-up truck, according to a statement by the Mountain View Police Department.

A witness observed this incident, the statement shared.

Cops tracked the truck to the parking lot of the Goodwill store several blocks away. Ovadia was found inside, but according to the MVPD, when Winterhalter saw the officers arrive, he fled on foot.

Winterhalter was detained at the nearby Lucky’s grocery store.

The witness identified the suspects and the alleged stolen property located in the truck, according to the MVPD. Police recovered a cardboard box that contained a Christmas tree and a plastic container with decorations. They did not immediately place a value on the items.

"The subsequent investigation led officers to other stolen property that detectives are currently trying to match up with victims," said Sean Thompson, spokesman for the MVPD.

Both suspect were booked at the Santa Clara County Main Jail for a variety of theft related charges including burglary, conspiracy, and possession of stolen property.
