Car Crashes into Building on El Camino Real

Mountain View Patch received a reader tip that the accident occurred Sunday afternoon near Rengstorff Avenue.

A silver BMW sedan crashed into on El Camino Real around mid-afternoon Sunday, the police department confirmed.

No injuries were reported, despite the store being open.

The incident, which occured around 2:42 p.m. appeared to have also caused extensive strutural damage to the storefront, according to Mountain View Patch reader Serge Bonte.

"Even with the car removed, the damage is quite impressive," he said, about the 2124 W. El Camino Real location.

Another passerby told Patch that as of 9 p.m., the car remained lodged in the window. The witness explained that the car took out a pole as it crashed through the window that held up the front of the building over the front door and window.

The car had been hoisted onto a tow truck by 9:30 p.m. and workers began to secure the premises. The car appeared to suffer damage primarily to its front bumper area.

Correction posted at 8:24 p.m.: The shop near Chevy's at El Camino Real and Rengstorff is Performance Bicycle, not Bay Area Performance Cycles.
