CHP Warns Drivers of Flooding, Accidents on Highways

Several floods in Bay Area roadways cause pre-Christmas havoc.

Heavy rain is causing flooding, accidents on roadways around the Bay Area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Updates throughout the evening:

6:58 p.m.: Roadway flooding at U.S. Highway 101 N near Embarcadero Road on ramp

6:21 p.m.:

  • CHP reports a landslide on northbound I-280 N before Page Mill Rd (Los Altos Hills). Second lane from the left blocked. Expect delays.

6:11 p.m.:

  • Traffic collisions, unknown injuries at I-280 S Foothill Expy off ramp at Foothill Blvd.
  • State Route nor North Hamilton Avenue, East on ramp at E. Hamilton Avenue.

A multi-vehicle accident with injuries was reported by CHP in Los Altos at 1:41 p.m., on southbound I-280 S at Foothill Expy. Right and center lanes blocked. Expect delays.

In San Francisco, several inches of water have been reported in north and southbound lanes on U.S. Highway 101 near Cesar Chavez Street,
according to the CHP.

One foot of water has been reported in San Jose on a connector ramp between Interstate Highway 280 and state Highway 85, according to the CHP.

Mountain View received some flooding on northbound state Highway 85 N at Moffett Blvd affecting the off ramps.

Around 9 a.m. the morning rain, caused down wires in Los Gatos on southbound CA-17 at Pasatiempo Dr. About an hour later, flooding was reported on CA-17 N northbound between Alma Bridge Rd and S Santa Cruz Ave.

Motorists were being advised to reduce speed and expect puddles of standing water on roads and highways.
