Cop and Pickup in Accident on Middlefield Road

The police officer, a woman and a man were transported to Stanford Hospital.

A Officer, a woman and a man have been transported to Stanford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries suffered in an accident that left a pickup overturned on Middlefield Road this evening and a patrol car slammed against a lamp post.

"The incident is still under investigation," said Lynn Brown, a department public information officer who arrived on the scene. He did not yet know the name of the officer involved in the incident.

According to a witness who walked his dog at around 8:20 p.m., the cop travelled eastbound on East Middlefield Road toward Whisman Road between 30 and 40 mph when a white Ford Ranger pickup turned from the westbound lane into the shopping center parking where the is located. The 69-year-old did not think the pickup attempted to make a U-turn. He did not say he saw the impact.

"Everyone seems to be okay," he said. "Looks like a miracle."

Across the street neighbors congregated, bewildered by the scene.

"I heard the clunk and came outside," said an elderly woman.

At one point the pickup tipped over and landed on its wheels. Fortunately no one was in the area.
