The California Highway Patrol reported the crash at 2:39 a.m. on northbound Highway 101 just north of Great America Parkway.

The motorcyclist, later identified as Ortega-Aguirre, was speeding as fast as 100 mph and tried to pass the big-rig, but instead hit it and was ejected from the motorcycle onto the roadway, according to the CHP.

Other vehicles then hit the motorcyclist, who was pronounced dead from his injuries at the scene, CHP officials said.

The drivers of all vehicles involved in the crash pulled over and cooperated with investigators, according to the CHP.

Officers closed the two right lanes of northbound Highway 101 for more than two hours before clearing the accident scene, CHP officials said.
