A 27-year-old man needed staples to close a three to four inch head wound after he tried to stop a fight at a downtown club last week, police report.
The resident of Mountain View told law enforcement that as he left Friday, May 4 at 1:40 a.m. he witnessed a fight taking place on the sidewalk.
The victim decided to help break it up, but was hit with an unknown object over the head, according to Spokeswoman Liz Wylie. The impact knocked him to the ground.
"When he got up, everyone was running away," Wylie said. "He did not see who hit him or what he was hit with. A friend later convinced him to go to the hospital for treatment."
According to Wylie, the MVPD received a call about a fight in progress at 1:41 but there was nothing in progress when they arrived.
However, at 3:23 a.m., staff called the police and reported that the victim had come to the emergency room with facial injuries.
