Fremont Man Arrested For Punching Semi-Unconscious Man

Police charge alleged suspect with assault with a deadly weapon.

A Fremont man has been booked into county jail for assault with a deadly weapon for hitting a man while he was down in Mountain View, police officials reported today.

According to the Mountain View Police Department Spokeswoman Liz Wylie, 's security allegedly saw Alejandro Vidales, 44, drag the 31-year-old San Jose male victim from the sidewalk onto the curbside parking area at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20, sit on top of him and punch the victim in the face.

Wylie informed that the Castro Street lounge's security also observed the victim's head hit the "cement hard," prior to the punching.

"The bouncer pulled the suspect off of the victim and the suspect fled," said Wylie. "Officers located the suspect, who had bloody clothes and bloody fists, sitting in the 300 block of Hope Street. The bouncer positively identitfied the suspect."

The suspect, Wylie explained, did not get charged with battery–but instead with the higher criminal offense–because the suspect "continued to punch the victim in the face repeatedly despite the fact the victim was either unconscious or semi-conscious."

The victim remained in a semi-conscious state during his transport to a local hospital. He suffered lacerations and abrasions on his face and a broken nose.

"Alcohol may have also been a factor in his state of mind," said Wylie about the victim. She's unsure about the suspect's alcohol consumption that night.
