UPDATED: Offramp Possibly Closed Until About 6:30 p.m. -- Mathilda Exit Off Hwy 101 in Sunnyvale Closed Due to Ruptured Gas Line

Work crews struck PG&E line near Moffett Field this afternoon.

PG&E is working to stop a gas leak that started when a PG&E line was struck by work crews near Moffett Field in Sunnyvale this afternoon, PG&E and public safety officials said.

The gas line was reported ruptured at about 12:55 p.m. near the intersection of North Mathilda Avenue and Ross Drive, located about one block east of Moffett Field, according to PG&E spokeswoman Monica Tell.

A third-party contractor was doing work in the area when crews struck a PG&E line causing a gas leak, Tell said.

One resident was evacuated because of the leak and two northbound lanes of Mathilda between U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 237 were closed, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Capt. Shawn Ahearn said.

In addition, Persian and West Weddell drives were closed near Ross Drive, Ahearn said.

The offramp of U.S. Highway 101 to Mathilda Avenue has been shut down, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Ahearn said that PG&E expected to stop the flow of gas by about 2:30 p.m. and full repairs would be completed by about 6:30 p.m.

No estimated time for repairs has been determined.

Sunnyvale fire crews responded and the offramp of U.S. Highway 101 to Mathilda Avenue have been shut down, according to the CHP.
