A Fremont man was killed Thursday afternoon in a collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle on state Highway 35 in southern San Mateo County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision was reported on northbound Highway 35 south of Page Mill Road within San Mateo County around 1:45 p.m., according to Officer Amelia Jack.

Firefighters responding to the scene pronounced the motorcycle rider, a 23-year-old Fremont man, dead shortly before 2 p.m., Jack said.

Investigators believe the motorcyclist crossed over into the northbound lanes into oncoming traffic and struck the front of an Acura driven by a Mountain View resident.

It is unclear if speed played a role in the collision, but it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were factors, Jack said.

Both lanes were closed on the highway until around 4:13 p.m.

Any witnesses to this incident are asked to call the CHP at (650) 369-6261.
