Mountain View DUI Arrests Up to 10 in Drunk Driving Crackdown

The third day of the county-wide crackdown saw a 35 percent increase in arrests overnight. Still the cumulative figure of 97 is less than the 113 arrested by the same time last year.

Mountain View Police had three more DUI arrests Sunday, part of the overall 35 percent day-to-day increase of the holiday anti-DUI campaign conducted by Santa Clara County law enforcement agencies, the county Sheriff's Office reported Monday.

On the third day of the Winter Holiday Anti-DUI Crackdown, law enforcement agencies stretching from Gilroy to Palo Alto, arrested 37 people for driving

under the influence of alcohol or drugs, bringing the cumulative total to 97 arrests.

Still, it is down from last year. In 2011, 113 DUI arrests occurred during the same three-day time period, said Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jose Cardoza, in a written report. Mountain View's cumulative total after three days is 10.

Over the course of the next several days of the 19-day campaign, extra local DUI Saturation Patrols will be deployed inthe cities of San Jose, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Los Gatos, Morgan Hill, Gilroy, & San Jose State.

On Friday December 21, DUI checkpoints will be conducted in the cities of Gilroy and San Jose.

All regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers will focus efforts at stopping and arresting DUI drivers during their normal shifts. Multiple DUI and driver’s license checkpoints, multi-agency DUI task force operations and local roving DUI patrols are all part of this region-wide crackdown.
