Mountain View Firefighters Return from Rim Fire

Four local firefighters part of Santa Clara County strike team assisted in containment of fire and protection of structures.

After a week out near Yosemite National Park, Mountain View Fire fighters have returned home.


The fire department posted on their Facebook page, this photo of Captain George Mocak, Firefighter/Paramedic Matt Sims, Engineer Ryan Santos and Engine Boss Captain Bill Walls.

When they deployed on Saturday, Aug. 24 the fire had consumed 143,980 acres and was only 7 percent contained. At that time they joined 2,500 firefighters in firefighting.

As of Tuesday, Sept. 3 the fire, though it burned 235,841 acres it's now 75 percent contained.

The Rim Fire has become the fourth largest fire in California history.
