MV Schools Close Early as Precaution After Cupertino Shootings

The Mountain View Police Department recommended that the schools on the MVHS campus close down early based on information now deemed inaccurate.

"The information regarding a home near Truman Avenue that the suspect had possible ties to has been confirmed as inaccurate," said Liz Wylie, MVPD spokeswoman. "The schools were closed down based on that infomration which is no longer valid."

At about 1:30 p.m., the MVPD began to send officers to assist the school resource officers already on seen. All three school are on adjacent campuses on Bryant and Truman Avenue. There they advised school officials to close down and send all remaining students, children and staff members home, according the a department press release.

The two high schools had early release days today and most students were already gone when the recommendation was made. By 2:30 p.m., all three schools were completely evacuated and closed for the day.

"The decision to evacuate and close down these schools was made due to limited and unconfirmed information the MVPD received that the suspect has ties to an address located nearby," said Liz Wylie, the department spokeswoman. "No further information is available at this time and there is no indication that the suspect, Shareef Allman, is in Mountain View."

Wylie added that no other Mountain View schools have been closed down or evacuated. These are the only three schools that the MVPD has made this recommendation to at this point in time.

The MVPD encourages residents to be vigilent and to report any suspicious activities or people by calling the non-emergency number at 650-903-6395.

Anyone who believes they see the suspect should call 9-1-1 immediately and should not attempt to contact him or talk to him. Anyone with information about the immediate whereabouts of the suspect should call 9-1-1.
