One-Alarm Fire Startles Monta Loma Neighborhood

Fire department responds to flames at home on Diablo Street.

They say that fences make for good neighbors. One fence in Monta Loma might have just saved two homes.

A little after 4 p.m. on July 3, the responded to calls of a house fire on Diablo Street. Neighbors decribed seeing flames.

According to MVFD Spokeswoman Jaime Garrett confirmed that firefighters arrived to a one-alarm structural fire that began in the back of the house. The fire did not spread to the neighbor's house.

Firefighters did have to make entry into both houses to make sure the fire hadn't spread, she said. The fire appeared, at the time, to have been confined to the fence.

None of the residents were home at the time.

The Fire Marshall arrived on scene to help determine the cause of the fire.
