MVPD responded to a report of car engulfed in flames and afterward, found person inside.

An unidentified person burned shortly before 1 a.m. on Friday when their car caught fire possibly after hitting a tree, police officials reported.

According to Mountain View Police Department Spokeswoman Liz Wylie, at 12:52 a.m. on Feb. 24, officers responded to a report of a car on fire on eastbound Central Expressway just east of Bernardo Avenue.

Officers arrived and found the car engulfed in flames. Both the Mountain View and Sunnyvale Fire Departments assisted to extinguish the fire.

"One deceased person was found inside the car after the fire was put out," Wylie said. "The identity and gender of the deceased driver are not known."

Wylie adds that the preliminary investigation has led officers to believe the 2007 BMW left the roadway and hit a tree before catching on fire.
