Campbell police are seeking the public's help in identifying a man who is suspected of sexual assault and attempted robbery during an incident on Thursday.

A woman was walking on Sunnyoaks Avenue near Winchester Boulevard where the suspect grabbed her from behind and forced her behind a car around 12:35 a.m., police said.

The suspect allegedly sexually assaulted her but the victim burned the left side of his face with a cigarette, according to police.

The suspect may have injuries from the burn, police said.

The man then pulled out a handgun and threatened the victim but she fled before he could rob her, police said.

The victim located a passerby who ran after the suspect but was unsuccessful in the chase, according to police.

The suspect was last seen running northbound in an alleyway on Sobrato Drive, police said.

Anyone with information on the incident or recognizes the suspect is asked to call Campbell Police Department's Investigations Unit at (408) 871-5190.

Those wishing to remain anonymous can also contact the Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at (408) 947-STOP (7867).
