Six DUI Arrests in Mountain View Over Holiday Weekend

The total number of arrests in Santa Clara County since Friday is 107, which is 35 more than last year, thanks to the efforts of the Avoid the 13 campaign to catch drunken drivers.

Police said they had made “a significant number of DUI arrests” on the third day of a Santa Clara County DUI campaign. On Sunday, officers had arrested 43 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

From midnight Friday through midnight Sunday, there were a total of 107 DUI arrests, six in Mountain View on Friday and Saturday but none on Sunday. They were given by local routine enforcement and special Avoid the 13 DUI enforcements, named for the number of police agencies in the county. The number is up from 72 DUI arrests that occurred last year during the same 72-hour period, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office on Monday.

On Monday, extra DUI saturation patrols were employed in the cities of Milpitas, Palo Alto, Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Altos Hills and San Jose.

Funding that pays for the overtime shifts for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
