Smoke Detected on Caltrain Tracks Smothered
A smoldering cigarette butt Tuesday afternoon may have caused a delay in train service at the San Antonio Station.
Thanks to a quick thinking commuter who saw smoke rising from between wooden joists of the southbound Caltrain tracks at the San Antonio Station, a larger fire may have been prevented.
About 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Engine No. 3 responded to a call reporting smoke seen on the tracks. While the actual cause was never determined, it is thought that the smoke may have been due to a cigarette.
Caltrain service was momentarily halted, but resumed after the smoke was smothered by a fire extinguisher and the law enforcement deemed it safe.
