UPDATED: Person Rescued After Falling Off San Mateo Bridge After Spat and Collision; Traffic Still Snarled

Coast Guard rescue complete, according to the CHP.

The U.S. Coast Guard has rescued the person who went into the water from the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge after a disagreement that occurred following a vehicle accident on the bridge this afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol. 

 All westbound and eastbound lanes of state Highway 92 on the bridge have reopened as of shortly after 4 p.m., but traffic remains snarled in the area, CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said. 

 The collision was originally reported at 2:25 p.m. involving a white Honda SUV and possibly another vehicle, according to Van Eckhardt. 

 He said that after the accident, two relatives in one of the vehicles got into a disagreement and one of them ended up in the water. 

 Officials rescued the person near the south side of the bridge, a section that is only about 15 feet above the water.

Three lanes of the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge are blocked this afternoon while the California Highway Patrol investigates a collision that resulted in a person possibly in the water following some sort of dispute between people involved in the crash, a CHP officer said.

 A collision was reported at 2:25 p.m. involving a white Honda SUV and possibly another vehicle, according to CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt.

 Two relatives in one of the vehicles got into a disagreement and one of the relatives possibly ended up in the water, Van Eckhardt said.

 He said that officials on scene believe the person could be on the south side of the bridge, a section of the bridge that is only about 15 feet above the water.

 Two boats are nearby searching for the person, he said.

A Sig-alert was called at 2:34 p.m. and updated at 3:02 p.m. indicating that traffic is at a standstill in both directions of state Highway 92.

The two right eastbound lanes are blocked and the left lane in the westbound direction is blocked by emergency crews, according to the CHP.
