Staff at Savvy Cellar Review Tapes After Petty Theft

The popular wine bar's patio furniture overturned and knife left behind, says staff.

Savvy Cellar's Facebook page Tuesday had an unusual message posted.

"Opening late today at 5 p.m. due to our patio getting vandalized last night.:( Sorry for the inconvenience—come share your love for us tonight. We could use it. Thx!"

According to staffer Brent Harrison, an employee who arrived to open the popular wine bar at 750 W. Evelyn Ave., discovered overturned tables, chairs and umbrellas.

"There was some minor damage to furniture along with planter and brochure rack," Harrison explained to Patch. "Reviewing video tape to see if we can ID perpetrator."

Harrison added that a knife had been left behind at the scene.

The recorded the incident, which occurred beteen Sunday, Aug. 12 and Tuesday, Aug. 14th, as petty theft. "Items in the patio area had been disturbed and a pamphlet holder was missing," said Jaime Garrett, interim public information officer.

Savvy Cellar has been open in Mountain View for two years. Prior to that, the wine bar spent five years in Redwood City.

This was the first time they experienced any such incident, Harrison told Patch.

On Facebook regular patrons expressed their frustration at the "hooligans who did that!" The Savvy Cellar staff thanked them for their concern.

"Thanks for all the love savvy wine peeps—makes a difference knowing you all are there for us. We will continue to be there for you—not too worry," said Savvy Cellar in response to the Facebook comments. "No major damage fortunately—just unsettling."
