Staff at Savvy Cellar Review Tapes After Petty Theft

The popular wine bar's patio furniture overturned and knife left behind, says staff.

Savvy Cellar's Facebook page Tuesday had an unusual message posted.

"Opening late today at 5 p.m. due to our patio getting vandalized last night.:( Sorry for the inconvenience—come share your love for us tonight. We could use it. Thx!"

According to staffer Brent Harrison, an employee who arrived to open the popular wine bar at 750 W. Evelyn Ave., discovered overturned tables, chairs and umbrellas.

"There was some minor damage to furniture along with planter and brochure rack," Harrison explained to Patch. "Reviewing video tape to see if we can ID perpetrator."

Harrison added that a knife had been left behind at the scene.

The recorded the incident, which occurred beteen Sunday, Aug. 12 and Tuesday, Aug. 14th, as petty theft. "Items in the patio area had been disturbed and a pamphlet holder was missing," said Jaime Garrett, interim public information officer.

Savvy Cellar has been open in Mountain View for two years. Prior to that, the wine bar spent five years in Redwood City.

This was the first time they experienced any such incident, Harrison told Patch.

On Facebook regular patrons expressed their frustration at the "hooligans who did that!" The Savvy Cellar staff thanked them for their concern.

"Thanks for all the love savvy wine peeps—makes a difference knowing you all are there for us. We will continue to be there for you—not too worry," said Savvy Cellar in response to the Facebook comments. "No major damage fortunately—just unsettling."

Mark, I will contact the SCC Coroner's office for information about his identity and then hopefullyRead More that can help us learn more about this man. I can only imagine how horrible this must have been.

My heart goes out to his family. I'm really saddened that the person who hit him is going to haveRead More to deal with guilty feelings/horrible memories from this, even though it was 0% his fault. If someone wants to take their own life, then that's terribly sad, but I think it's especially terrible to involve or potentially involve someone else in the process.

My daughter and I saw the man climbing down the fence and deliberately drop himself down into the onRead More coming traffic! It was a very gruesome thing to see. I would be interested in knowing something about this person. I feel horrible for him and his loved ones.
