Ex-Mountain View Perp to Stand Trial in Redwood City for Starbucks Robbery

A man who robbed the Redwood Shores Starbucks at gunpoint in 2005 has finally been brought back to San Mateo County to stand trial for the crime.

Shilo Salem, who was 32 years old at the time, entered the Starbucks at 264 Redwood Shores Parkway shortly before closing time at 8 p.m. on June 25, 2005.

Salem pulled out a gun and pointed it at the three employees who were working at the time. He ordered one of the employees to open the safe.

Salem made off that night with approximately $3,000 in cash - and then disappeared.

Investigators searched for Salem for several months before finally catching up with him in Santa Clara County in January of 2006. Salem was arrested by Mountain View Police for a different crime, and during his interrogation, he confessed to a whopping eight other crimes, including the Redwood Shores armed robbery.

Salem is now believed to have committed a total of eight robberies in Redwood City, Santa Clara, Mountain View, San Leandro and San Jose.

The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office is now finally being allowed to try Salem for his crimes locally. Salem was recently transferred from prison in Santa Clara County to San Mateo County, where he is currently in custody on $1 million bail.

Salem was scheduled to appeared in San Mateo County Court in Redwood City on Monday, for a pre-trial conference. His jury trial is expected to begin on May 6.
