Police Seek Attempted Robbery Suspect

The Mountain View Police Department has released sketch of man claimed to have attempted to steal a backpack from a pedestrian.

Local police seek a man who attempted to steal a backpack from a man who walked along Stevens Creek Trail near Evelyn Avenue, the department reported Tuesday.

The suspect is described as an Hispanic male in his mid-20's, 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium to heavy build. He allegedly approached the victim from behind and grabbed his backpack, according to Sgt. Sean Thompson. The incident took place on Tuesday, Oct. 16 sometime between 7:55 and 8 p.m. near the trailhead at 151 Calderon Ave.

A struggle between the two ensued over control of the backpack, and they both fell to the ground. The victim received minor abrasions as a result of the attack.

According to Thompson an unknown cyclist rode down the trail and the victim yelled for help, but no one stopped.

The victim gained control of his backpack, ran home and called 9-1-1 around 8:05 p.m. The suspect, who fled, wore dark clothing and a dark colored baseball cap.

The MVPD cautions trail users to watch their surroundings and call the police department to report any suspicious people or activities via the non-emergency dispatch number at 650-903-6395. An emergency or crime in progress should be reported via 9-1-1.

Anyone with any information about this suspect or crime is encouraged to call Detective Longshore at 650-903-6359.
