Teen Bludgeoned in Mountain View Assault

The police unsure if attack random or gang-related.

A 17-year-old Mountain View teen has suffered a serious head injury after a man struck him over the head with an object, the police reported Tuesday.

"It could be random or not, and it might be gang-related," said Sgt. Sean Thompson, spokesman for the Mountain View Police Department. "It's too early to tell and the investigation is still ongoing."

He added however that "something like this hasn't happened lately."

The incident took place at approximately 8:39 p.m. on Jan. 28, as the victim and a friend rode their bikes on the 2000 block of Latham Street. All of a sudden, an unidentified male emerged from a concealed location and hit the victim over the head.

According to Thompson, the friend saw the suspect strike the victim once, but "was unable to see if he was struck more." The suspect fled the scene and ran toward Rengstorff Avenue.
