A Campbell-area transient was arrested this morning in the area of John D. Morgan Park for suspicion of murdering a San Jose teenager Sunday night, said the Campbell Police Department.

A citizen called police Sunday at approximately 8:26 p.m. to report an injured male in the area of the park on West Rincon Avenue, police said. Officers found the man, Todd Tharp, 24, who had injuries consistent with being involved in a serious physical altercation, police said.

Authorities were notified, meanwhile, by Santa Clara Valley Medical Center staff that a 16-year-old male teen from San Jose was just brought into the emergency room suffering from a stab wound. He was rushed into surgery, but was pronounced dead at 2:55 a.m. today, according to police.

Through interviews and follow-up investigation with Tharp, police determined he was allegedly responsible for the stabbing of the teen.

Tharp also apparently sustained injuries that required medical attention at VMC.

Following Tharp's treatment by medical staff, he was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for murder, police said.

Campbell police detectives are conducting further investigation, and anyone who witnessed or has further information on the incident is encouraged to call Sgt. Gary Berg at (408) 871-5190.

Mike ... what's really sad is people like you out there how can you categorize people that you don't even know? I myself am a conservative and I'm disappointed that you are too. I personally know Todd and he couldn't hurt a fly unless he was defending himself. You get a bunch of these wanna be gang bangin' punks out there, no telling what's going to happen. Homelessness is a symptom of a bigger problem.

I could not agree with you more Steve I to know Todd.

The teenager had one stab wound, and the transient had "injuries consistent with being involved in a serious physical altercation". The teeanger probably decided it was 'kick a bum back to hell day' and saw an easy opportunity. Was he related to you, Mike?

Well said Steve and A.Buckle!! I also know Todd, he's my cousin, and he wouldn't hurt anyone unless it was to defend his own life. Mike, stop encouraging gang bangin punks going to the park and jumping and beating up on innocent people to where they have to defend their own lives!!

It's sad for both, and it's also sad for people who use the park. It used to be a nice place to take your kids.
