Two Men Arrested in Connection with Stolen Car, Hit-and-Run

The suspects drove a car that belonged to someone in San Jose.

Blame it on the rain!

A 1994 Honda Accord was found crashed on the side of the on-ramp to the Central Expressway from N. Shoreline Boulevard soon after the heaviest downpour on Friday, Nov. 30 subsided.

But instead of remaining with the damaged vehicle—whose airbags had deployed—and waiting for help, the driver and passenger fled, catching the attention of a witness who called the Mountain View Police Department at 11:13 a.m.

After running the license plate on the car, police officers learned the vehicle had been reported stolen out of San Jose, according to spokesman Sgt. Sean Thompson.

Now armed with an initial witness' description of the alleged criminals and the general direction of their route, the MVPD set up a perimeter. They eventually found and arrested the first of the two suspects - 20-year-old San Jose resident Enrique Alchino - while he was entering a business at 240 Polaris Ave.

Almost an hour after the initial call, at 12:04 p.m., police spotted and arrested the second suspect, 18-year-old Jose Escobar from Fresno, near the Bailey Center Safeway on N. Shoreline Blvd.

"Both were totally wet," Thompson said.

Both Alchino and Escobar were arrested and booked for possessing stolen property and for hit-and-run.
