Montiel explained that at approximately at 6:23 p.m., Redwood City area CHP Officers received a call of an injury collision on SR-85 northbound just south of E. Evelyn Avenue.

It appears that the white Toyota Camry travelled in the No. 1 lane and the white 1996 Audi A4 travelled in the No. 2 lane. The Toyota changed lanes from the No. 1 to the No. 2 lane in close proximity to the Audi.

"It is unknown at this time, if the two vehicles actually made contact," he said.

Apparently the Audi veered to the right down an embankment leaving the roadway and collided with a large tree on the embankment between the E. Evelyn Avenue off ramp and SR-85 northbound causing major damage to driver's side of the vehicle.

The female driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This collision is still under investigation and it is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision. Investigators continue to look for the Toyota, license plate number of 5JNM316, Montiel said.

If there are any witnesses to this collision, please contact Officer La Pointe at
(650) 369-6261 Ext. 370.
