California National Guard Fallen Soldier Honored Saturday

Spc. Sean Walsh died from enemy fire in November 2011 and his body arrived to his family and brothers of the 129th Rescue Wing at Moffett Field two weeks later.

The memory of Spc. Sean Walsh will live forever.

On Saturday, Dec. 1, the California National Guard (CNG) will honor him for his service by naming the Pittsburg National Guard armory in his honor.

Spc. Sean Walsh, who deployed to Afghanistan as a member of the CNG’s Pittsburg-based 870th Military Police Company, died by enemy fire on Nov. 16, 2011 as he served in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

, where it was received by his brethren in the 129th Rescue Wing. A single child, his distraught mother Cheryl Walsh walked around his casket laying kisses over the U.S. flag.

Since Walsh has actively engaged her community through charitable service through the National Guard’s family support network and the Santa Clara Police Department’s K-9 program, with which Sean volunteered during high school, according to the CNG.

The ceremony in honor of Walsh will take place at the Army National Guard armory on 99 Power Road in Pittsburg at 10 a.m.
