Critical Vote Tonight at City Council About North Bayshore Housing

In a straw vote last week, four council members voted not to consider housing on the Northside of Highway 101.

So do you, or do you not want the City Council to leave open the possibility of housing in North Bayshore?

At tonight's council session the Council will decide, in part, the future of the city with its adoption of the General Plan.

After the straw vote where Councilmembers Margaret Abe Koga, Laura Macias, Ronit Bryant and Jac Siegel signaled that they would not to include in the North Bayshore precise plan the possibility for housing.

The Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society celebrated this small step on their Facebook page on Wednesday, July 4th. They posted a public "thank you" to members for their letter writing campaign. It read:

"Thank You for responding to our call for action!!! Mountain View City Council voted last night 4:3 to allow No Housing at North Bayshore. They have received dozens of emails - not only from Mountain View residents but from the entire Bay Area, urging them to protect Shoreline Regional Wildlife Area and its sensitive species and landscapes. I want to thank all who have written to council. We could not protect the environment - and burrowing owls - without your proactive support. I truly appreciate your taking the time to email the City Council, Very Happy 4th of July."

However, that vote was just a way to gauge the pulse of the Council. Since then, the began to galvanize supporters of housing for North Bayshore.

"We do not feel that this is reflective of the many residents who have spoken, written, or emailed letters of support," said an email sent to members of the Chamber.

"The Chamber of Commerce strongly feels that housing should be left in the General Plan for further exploration. Removing it altogether is too extreme and will severely limit how the City can plan for future growth."

Will you be there for the discussion and vote tonight, Tuesday, July 10 at 6:30 p.m. in ?
