Endeavour Shuttle Launch Delayed

NASA Ames to reschedule launch party.

The launch director for the STS-134 Endeavour shuttle announced that Friday's launch will be delayed at least 72 hours.

NASA Ames had planned to host a launch-viewing party and had doors open at 10 a.m., said Mike Leinbach. The news about Endeavour's delay became official at 10:14 a.m. Friday.

Endeavour, scheduled to launch at 12:47 p.m., was postponed because of an issue that arose in Friday’s launch scrub. During countdown, "engineers detected a failure in one of two heater circuits associated with Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) 1," Leinbach said.

Engineers were unable to activate the heater.

The launch team will meet Friday to refine their troubleshooting plan, and NASA will host a news conference at 4 p.m. to discuss the scrub and the plan.
