Mountain View Teens Award Cool Businesses

Out of 171 businesses nominated 13 will be honored by the Youth Advisory Committee.

It pays to be be cool to the teens in Mountain View.

On Monday, two of thirteen businesses became the first awardees of the Teen Friendly Business Program—the Starbucks and Chipotle at El Monte Center.

They and the other eleven beat out a group of 171 nominated businesses confirmed Councilmember Mike Kasperzak, Youth Reources Manager Kim Castro and Regina Maurantonio, assistant director of parks and recreation.

"These businesses were chosen for being an environment that is friendly for studying, where the staff treats them like respect and hires them," said Castro. The population of school age children in Mountain View is approximately 16 percent.

The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) held a brief award ceremony at the first two businesses on Monday. Each awardee will be officially recognized by the City Council at a later date.

The 13 winners of the Teen Friendly Business Program are:

  • Peet's Coffee & Tea
  • Red Rock Coffee
  • Le Boulanger
  • Baskin Robbins
  • Gamestop
  • Starbucks (Castro Street)
  • House of Bagels
  • West Valley Music
  • In 'n' Out Burger (El Camino Real)
  • Jamba Juice

Each businesses will receive decals to place on their windows and certificates.
