NASA Satellite Captures Image of Rim Fire

Mountain View agencies participate in firefighting efforts.

The Rim Fire in Stanislaus National Forest has burned nearly 150,000 acres and only 15 percent of it has been contained, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

NASA has captured this natural-color satellite image of the Rim Fire as collected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA's Terra satellite on Aug. 25.

Mountain View has representation in the firefighting efforts near Yosemite National Park. Four Mountain View firefighters deployed Sunday to support fire suppression efforts and the 129th Rescue Wing of the California Air National Guard stationed at Moffett Field has also deployed.

According to the 129th, so far they assisted with the drop of nearly 157,000 gallons of water in over 51.9 hours in their two HH-60G Pave Hawk rescue helicopters.
