PHOTOS: Mariposa Park Opens Its Wings to the Public

The city's 37th park delights its new community.

Children's laughter fluttered throughout the recently dedicated Mariposa Park on Monday night.

Patch stopped by to take a look at the new park, located at 305 Mariposa Ave. and which officially opened on Saturday, June 9, and noticed dozens of families enjoying the warm hazy evening.

The kids climbed, swung, slid, jumped and of course laughed, while the adults sat comfortable and experience the serene surroundings.

Councilwoman Margaret Abe-Koga stopped by with her daughter and shared that on opening day, kids waited anxiously to get in and play. She explained how fortunate it was that Mountain View could still open parks, while other cities cut back on amenities.

"This is our 37th park," she said.

The whimsical park has little butterfly details everywhere, since mariposa means  butterfly in Spanish. Even from an aerial view, the grounds look like the wings of a butterfly. And around the park, little caterpillers and butterfly complement the kiosks that give information about the lifespan of a butterfly.
