Acrimony Continues After Bullis Signs Facilities Agreement

Excited students and teachers started a new school year this week at Bullis Charter School in Los Altos.

A dispute over an unsigned Facilities Use Agreementthreatened to disrupt the start of school, but the needs of the children were put ahead of the mistrust of adults.

So, where to now?

The FUA was signed and sent to LASD Monday night.

On Tuesday, Board of Trustees President Doug Smith sent a letter to Bullis with proposed dates to discuss possible changes to the FUA and other issues. Smith’s letter concluded, “I believe that we all stand on the precipice of a true long-term solution that could build community support and pass a bond to build new schools for both BCS and District students. This is a significant step forward for all parties.”

Also on Tuesday, Bullis issued a press release saying that the FUA had been signed “under protest and duress” and emphasized the need for changes.

The news release concluded with a quote from BCS Board Chair Ken Moore, ‘“Now we have signed the agreement – it is time for them to follow through on promises they made and negotiate with us so that all public school students in Los Altos can have full access to their school facilities.”
