API Scores: School By School for Mountain View

Looking for scores? Mountain View Patch compiled a list of the school districts and schools Mountain View students might attend. Look for our analysis story Friday.

The California Academic Performance Index (API) base report released Thursday morning showed that overall, Santa Clara County schools, including Mountain View did very well.

Scores for the Mountain View Whisman School District for 2012 grew 22 points to 855 from its 2011 base score of 833.

The state uses API scores to rate a school's performance on scale of 200 to 1,000. California's benchmark, or expected average is 800. The scores continue to be widely anticipated scores by parents, school administrators and realtors.

"We are extremely proud of our teachers and staff, who are relentlessly committed to the success of every child," said Superintendent Craig Goldman. "Our District-wide effort to improve classroom instruction and engagement appears to be having a significant impact on student achievement."

The county office of education said the results showed a trend of higher performance among a broad range of schools in the county, for tests taken by students last spring. About 68 percent of county schools met or exceeded the statewide performance target of 800 for the 2011 Base API. That compares with 50 percent statewide.
