Local Student Selected to Elite All-State Jazz Ensemble

Only one bass player from all of California is selected for the California All-State Jazz Ensemble, according to school officials.

A local student is making history for the MVLA High School District, becoming the first Los Altos High School student to ever be selected to play in a prestigious state ensemble, school officials announced Tuesday.

Mikailo Kasha has been selected to the California All-State Jazz Ensemble and will perform with the group on Feb. 21 at the California All-State Music Education Conference/California Band Directors Association (CASMEC/CBDA) convention in Fresno, according to Mountain View Los Altos High School District officials.

"One bass player from all of California is selected to play in this elite ensemble," Dr. Barry R. Groves announced of Kasha's achievement.

The student will play with "the finest" high school jazz musicians in the state, he added.
