In total 421 students graduated from MVHS and just as many from LAHS will begin a new chapter in their life, with the vast majority heading off to colleges not just in California, but across the nation.

The MVLA High School Foundation wanted to give the community a sense of where local graduates will study this fall so they created a "Mapping the Future" illustration that plots the universities and number of students that will enroll in each.

"This map makes tangible the breadth of our students’ achievements," said Laura Roberts, executive director of the MVLA High School Foundation. "It’s almost like receiving a report card of our foundation’s accomplishments in supporting the students’ goals and aspiring for their futures."

During the 2012-13 school year, the MVLA High School Foundation gave a $1.2 million grant to the high schools district that went toward improving the college and career centers, award-winning tutorial centers, practice SAT tests and investment in STEM programs, among others.

For 2013-14, they hope to give $1.3 million.

"Graduates have told us that MVLA-funded programs and services were significant contributors to their success in getting into top colleges," said Roberts.
